Our Motivation
Why this mission matters
The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Children's Hospital Association joined together in 2021 to declare that youth mental health is in a national state of emergency, a pre-existing crisis exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. This situation is also worsened by the lack of access to services for so many in the state of Texas, who ranks 46th in access to mental care for those under 18. Although the struggle to find services may be familiar to many, the poor suffer far more frequently.
At Caring Hearts and Thriving Minds, we understand the impact that poverty can have on a child and their family. We see every day how those coming from low income households struggle to find high-quality behavioral services, despite their increased risk for mental health problems. This is why it is our organizations mission is to increase access to effective mental healthcare services, provide culturally competent health education, and perpetuate meaningful advocacy within our community.
